Wyandotte Youth Assistance

The Wyandotte Youth Assistance Program is a community based program sponsored by the City of Wyandotte with some additional funding through Wayne County Department of Child and Family Services, and local community organizations' contributions. This juvenile diversion program serves not just as an intervention for youth ages 7-16, but also as a prevention program. All services are free and open to Wyandotte’s residents. Depending on need and availability, services may include one-to-one mentoring, life skills peer groups, counseling, parenting workshops/support, referrals for outside therapy/treatment, recreational activities, prison visit, court observation, field trips, or tutoring help.

Wyandotte youths ages 7-16 years old who are having problems such as school or home truancy, drug or alcohol use, behavioral problems, family conflicts, difficult dealing with a grief or loss and trouble with law enforcement are eligible for enrollment. Youths are generally referred to us through the schools, police, juvenile courts or parents.

The Wyandotte Youth Assistance is always looking for volunteers to mentor our children. If you or someone you know is willing to make a commitment to the program by sharing an hour or so of your time once a week for a period of six weeks, you may contact us. You must be at least 21 years of age or older with a good driving record. All mentors must meet screening requirements and qualifications, and will be trained at no cost. A few hours a week could make a tremendous difference in the life of a child. Please contact the Youth Assistance Office to apply.
