Downriver Central Animal Control is the intake shelter and picks up all lost domestic animals. . They are located at 14300 Reaume Pkwy Southgate MI 48195 2 blocks west of the Southgate Post office off DIX between Northline and Eureka.. Domesticated animals will be picked up by our department or can be dropped off. The Wyandotte Adoption Center. 1170 Grove has been turned into the adoption center for the DCAC. They do not accept stray animals. The animal control officers are only licensed to handle domesticated animals (dogs, cats). Squirrels, opossums, raccoons and rats, are non-domesticated and considered wildlife. Our animal control officers may offer assistance to residents who have issues with these types of animals but you may need to contact a private pest removal company for help.
Traps are available to capture non-domesticated animals that are causing property damage. Please contact the Downriver Central Animal Control at 734-246-1328 or 734-324-4438 (after 5:00 pm) to obtain a trap. Most traps will need to be picked up at the office. Once the animal is successfully trapped, you must contact Animal Control, pick up the trapped animal. Traps are rented out Mon-Wed. There is a $20 deposit with a $5 rental fee in which you will receive your deposit back within 5 days $1 a day after 5 days. Animal Control will not pick up cages that are privately owned.
