Museum Archives & Collections

The Wyandotte Museum
maintains an archives and research room pertaining to the history
and development of the City of Wyandotte, Michigan and the
surrounding area. The archives comprises of information from the
early Native American inhabitants to the present day. Business,
industry, people, homes, clubs and organizations are all
represented in the collection.

Highlights from the archives include:

WYANDOTTE SHIPBUILDING
Over 200 ships were built in Wyandotte from the
1870's until the 1920's. Some of the more famous ships include the
"Columbia" and "Tashmoo." The Museum maintains plans and pictures of
most of these vessels; also, artifacts and memorabilia from these once
great, Great Lakes ships.

MICHIGAN ALKALI CO.
The Michigan Aklali Co., later Wyandotte Chemicals
was established in the late 1800's and has, over the years, produced a
variety of chemical products. Today, now BASF, the company continues its
production. The Museum has payroll ledgers, photographs, documents and
other important resources from this company.
WYANDOTTE
TOY COMPANY
The All-Metal-Products Company, better known as
the Wyandotte Toy Co., produced metal guns, cars, planes and boats from
the 1920's to the 1950's. Shipped world-wide these toys are now a highly
sought after collector's item. The Wyandotte Museum has many fine
examples of these toys and various documents from the company.
WYANDOT
INDIANS
The Wyandot's were located along the banks of the
Detroit River at the village of Maquaqua until 1818 when treaties forced
them to Ohio, then Kansas and finally Oklahoma. The Museum has a variety
of information pertaining to these native peoples.
