Join us for this annual event
sponsored by the Wyandotte Historical Society! A lovely
afternoon of tea, freshly baked scones, sandwiches, and other
delicious treats await you as we celebrate the Victorian
tradition of afternoon tea with a twist! The fun and frivolity
of Lewis Carrol’s classic tale, Alice in Wonderland, will play
out with a visit from Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts
and the Cheshire Cat. Live classical music will accompany the
tea party as guests take tea on the newly renovated porch and
tented lawn of our lovely 1896 Ford-MacNichol home! Also, be
sure to stop by next door at the newly restored 1908 Burns Home
to get your picture taken with Alice and her friends. The 1862
Marx Home will also feature an exhibit of art work by local
artists of the Acanthus Art Society. Other activities include a
quilt raffle, courtesy of the Wyandotte Museum Quilters, and
various tea themed items for sale. This year’s Tea is in honor
of past community preservation activist Yvonne Latta.
Tickets are required and sell out fast – proceeds
benefit the Oakwood Cemetery for the maintenance and
restoration. Three seating times available - 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM
and 3:00 PM, $10.00 per adult, $8.00 per child 12 & under.
Limited seating. Call 734.324.7284 for more info or check out

Preserve America
Greetings All;
I am proud to announce that
the City of Wyandotte has been awarded the designation of a
Preserve America
community from the Federal government.
This
is a great honor for our city and has practical applications in
relation to our ability to promote cultural tourism in
Wyandotte, as well as the awareness
and education of preservation issues in our city. The
Preserve America
designation provides an opportunity to acquire matching grants
from $20,000 to $150,000 which can benefit all of our citizens
by way of awards for research, documentation, interpretation
markers, planning, marketing, and training.
In 2006,
Preserve America
Grants totaling nearly $5 million were awarded to 68 projects
around the country. Nearly $5 million will be awarded in 2007.
President Bush’s fiscal year 2008 budget requests $10 million
in grant funds for which only designated
Preserve America
Communities may apply.
For our
Preserve America
Community designation we will/have received the following:
official White House recognition and a certificate of that
recognition; a Preserve America Community road sign;
authorization to use the
Preserve America logo on signs, flags, banners, and
promotional materials; listing in a Web-based
Preserve America
Community directory; inclusion in national and regional press
releases; official notification of designation to State tourism
offices and visitor bureaus; and enhanced community visibility
and pride.
At this point, to our
knowledge, we are the only community in SE Michigan to receive
this recognition.
Press
release detailing the
Preserve America program.
Thank you very much;
Jody
