Guidelines for Recreational Fires

The Fire Department has adopted the following guidelines when dealing with fire pits.

  1. Fire pits are to be a commercially available model with a fire screen.  No ground pits will be allowed.  Use of a fire screen helps to control flying sparks and embers.
  2. Fire pits must be located a minimum of ten (10) feet from any permanent structure. (i.e. house, garage, combustible fencing)
  3. Only clean, dry firewood is to be burned.  This alone helps to control the amount of smoke being generated.
  4. Only small, controllable fires should be set at any given time.
  5. Fire is to be attended at ALL times.
  6. You must provide a means of extinguishment and have it readily available. (i.e. garden hose, fire extinguisher)
  7. Failure to abide by these guidelines constitutes a nuisance under the City Code of Ordinances.
