Guidelines for Recreational Fires
The Fire Department has adopted the following guidelines when
dealing with fire pits.
- Fire pits are to be a commercially available model with a
fire screen. No ground pits will be allowed. Use of
a fire screen helps to control flying sparks and embers.
- Fire pits must be located a minimum of ten (10) feet from
any permanent structure. (i.e. house, garage, combustible
fencing)
- Only clean, dry firewood is to be burned. This alone
helps to control the amount of smoke being generated.
- Only small, controllable fires should be set at any given
time.
- Fire is to be attended at ALL times.
- You must provide a means of extinguishment and have it
readily available. (i.e. garden hose, fire extinguisher)
- Failure to abide by these guidelines constitutes a nuisance
under the City Code of Ordinances.
