Animal Control Department

Animal PoundWyandotte Animal Control Department is operated as a division of the Wyandotte Police Department and works in conjunction with Pound Pals and volunteers of P.A.W.S. to provide the citizens of Wyandotte with animal care services. Animal Control adopts domesticated cats and dogs as long as are not vicious or in a state of poor health. Friendly animals are spayed/neutered and available for adoption during our weekend and evening adoption hours.

Wyandotte Animal Control would like to remind you that all owners of dogs, cats or ferrets in the City of Wyandotte are required to register for an Animal License. Applications for an animal license are available for download below, at the Police Department, Department of Public Service or Office of the Clerk. Upon receipt of this application, you will be issued a tag which will be used to identify your pet in the event it becomes lost.

Pets For Adoption

Summer means more stray animals! If your dog or cat is missing, please contact the Wyandotte Animal Shelter at 324-4445, or visit the shelter at 1170 Grove Street. If you are looking for a new pet we have some great cats and dogs waiting for you. Summer also means baby bunnies - if you find them in your yard, please leave them be! They have a better chance at surviving if left in the nest, as their mother will return to feed them at night. View our adoptable animals at www.wyandotteanimalcontrol.petfinder.com

P.A.W.S.

P.A.W.S. (Precious Animal Welfare Society) of Michigan is a 501 (c) (3), all-volunteer group that promotes the humane, compassionate, and responsible treatment of all animals. It is our mission to protect and care for homeless animals by placing them with loving foster families until compatible permanent homes can be found, and to engage in benevolent and charitable activities to support this goal. We are dedicated to lowering the number of animals needlessly euthanized each year in our community by promoting the spaying and neutering of all companion animals and in educating the public on the importance of responsible animal guardianship. Working in alliance with other rescue groups and animal welfare agencies we seek to develop a network of like-minded individuals who strive to eliminate animal suffering and create an animal-friendly community.

All of the animals in our program have received age-appropriate vaccines, and are surgically sterilized prior to adoption. All cats/kittens are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, and dogs are tested for heartworm if they are old enough. The adoption fees for our animals help defray the cost of these, as well as any other required, veterinary services.

Volunteer assistance and foster homes, as well as tax-deductible donations of cash and supplies, are always needed and gratefully accepted.
