General Office Hours: Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Engineering and Building Department is closed on holidays and when other city offices are closed.

The mission of the Engineering and Building Department is to provide required inspections, permitting, plan reviews and inspection services in accordance with the Michigan Building Code. The Engineering and Building Department provides support for City ordinances regarding the sale of all buildings, rental of buildings and ten (10) year renewal of residential units. Administration of CDBG Program. Design, inspection, contract administration, and calculation of special assessments for projects approved by City Council.

Condos on Biddle AveThe Engineering and Building Department Department and the Department of Public Works administration of ACT 51 Funding (street funds) including design, inspection, contract award of pavement replacement, resurfacing, pavement placement, new construction and rehabilitation, maintenance replacement, new construction and rehabilitation. Maintenance activities include pavement and curb repairs, snow removal, road painting and traffic signage. Administration of solid waste collection, disposal and recycling programs. Provide design installation, inspection, maintenance and replacement of all public sewers. Support of TIFA/DDA projects including design, installation, maintenance of various approved projects.
