The City of Wyandotte has contracted with Waste Management (WM) for the collection of weekly solid waste, subscription curbside recycling and subscription curbside yard waste collection effective November 1, 2010. Please review the following requirements:

SOLID WASTE

Trash cans, and /or bags should be placed at the curb NO LATER than 5:00 am on your collection day. Trash must be placed at the curb in a watertight container or a trash bag that does not exceed 32 gallons in size and 60 lbs in weight. Containers that do not meet these requirements will not be collected.

  • Use of large, bulky containers over 32-gallons in size for solid waste can cause serious injuries to WM workers including wrist sprains and back injuries.
  • Collection workers lift between 800 and 1,000 containers per day. Although these larger cans are easy to drag/roll to the curb, it is very difficult to lift four feet off the ground to dump in the collection vehicle.
  • Studies have shown that injuries decreased by over 50% with these limits.

Please assist us in creating a safer working environment and do not use containers over 32-gallons at the curb.

If you have a large container you would like to dispose of, please place a sign on the container saying, “THROW CAN AWAY”.
