Presenting Business, Addressing the Council, and Dress Code
Presenting your items of business before the City Council
The deadline for submitting Agenda items is 4:30 pm the Thursday
prior to Council Meeting. (Please submit a single original document
addressed to The Honorable Mayor and Council.)
Addressing the Council
RESOLVED by the City Council that effective, immediately, persons
may address the City Council under the following rules:
1.) Any person may address the Mayor and Council at the conclusion
of Communications-Miscellaneous and prior to Communications from
City and Other Officials.
2.) The total time that a person may address the City Council is
five (5) minutes unless the City Council, by majority, votes to
suspend this rule.
3.) When the time limit expires, the chairman of the evening shall
so notify the speaker and permit he or she to complete their address
within the next thirty (30) seconds.
4.) If the speaker has not finished at the end of thirty (30)
seconds, the Mayor or other presiding official shall strike the
gavel and direct the speaker to quit speaking immediately.
5.) Each person who wishes to address the Council shall step up to
the podium and state his or her name and address. No speaker may
make personal attacks upon any officer, employee, or City Council
member or other elected official, that is totally unrelated to the
manner in which the officer, employee, or City Council member or
other elected official performs his or her duties. No person shall
use threatening or abusive language when addressing the city
Council. Comment shall be directed to the Mayor and City Council and
not to members sitting in the audience. Any person who violates this
section shall be directed by the Mayor or other presiding officer to
be orderly and silent.
6.) If the person addressing the Council refuses to become silent
when directed, or if any person is committing a breach of the peace
or is disturbing or disrupting the Council meeting, the Mayor and
person presiding at the City Council meeting shall order the person
to leave the Council meeting. If the person refuses to leave as
directed, the Mayor or presiding officer may direct any law
enforcement officer who is present or any other City Official to
escort the violator from the meeting.
7.) Any member of the public may address the Mayor and City Council
on any agenda item at the conclusion of Communications from City and
Other Officials.
Dress Code
City Council adopted a dress code under the authority of Section 3
of the Michigan Open Meetings Act and Section 71 of the Wyandotte
City Charter that states as follows:
"To maintain the dignity and decorum of the City Council Meetings
and so as not to disrupt said meetings no person shall be allowed to
attend and/or address the Wyandotte City Council unless they are
dressed in proper attire. Persons not wearing shoes or wearing
inappropriate clothing such as tank top-type I-shirts, bathing
suits. and inappropriate shorts and men's hats or caps or the like
shall be excluded from the meetings."
Meeting Times
Signs advising the public of these rules are posted on the first
floor of the City Hall Building and immediately outside the City
Hall Chambers.
All City Council Meetings may be viewed on Local Access Channel 19
on the following dates and times:
Monday at 11:00 pm
Tuesday at 9:00 am and 1:30 pm
Friday at 11:00 am, 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm
Saturday at 9:00 am
